In the crock pot is chicken and rice with chopped celery and onions, and spices. Risa has removed the lid, inserted a bowl of collard, chard, kale, and beet greens, and popped the pot lid over the greens. The one will steam while the other cooks. No other dinner prep needed today -- or tomorrow, she thinks.
Love it.
ReplyDeleteI am currently reaping the bounty of some free pumpkins (acquired the day after Halloween...whole, not Jack-o-lanterns)
So far, pumpkin empanadas, pumpkin soup and pumpkin bread.
Ome pumpkin down. Two still to go!
You are a true energy "tightwad" Good work :)
ReplyDeleteOh, it gets beddah! Halfway through the cooking, switch it off, cover the lid with all your potholders and throw a small quilt (kept for the purpose) over the whole shebeen. Tuck it in, and go about your business.
ReplyDeleteI've never thought of using it in this way. You're so very clever!
ReplyDeleteThe bowl shown, which a kind of old-fashioned Corning ware, is a very slow steamer, though. If you try this, experiment with different thingies until it comes out right.
ReplyDeleteVery clever!
ReplyDeleteThankee, dear.
ReplyDeleteHi Risa. I wanted to stop by for a return blog visit and thank you for taking the time to leave a helpful comment. I've been exploring your blog, and reading through some of your posts. I figured this one was a good place to stop and leave a comment! I use my crock pot a lot and never thought to do this, very clever! I have a double decker steamer that I use on occasion, but I'm going to have to try this idea too.
ReplyDeleteThe permacultural way of cooking!
ReplyDeleteHi, Leigh, more tea or is this just a short visit? ;)
ReplyDeleteKaat -- permacooker design! Maybe we should all sit in a circle? :D
