Planted two camellia sinensis (tea). These are a Russian cultivar, supposed to be able to handle our winters, should be delivering green tea within two to five years.
Hey Risa I have this plant (not sure if it's the Russian one or not) and it has survived two winters on the BC Coast. So I'd say chances are good though I think I'd throw something over it if we had a sudden deep freeze like the one last November. Keep us posted.
I'm not a tea drinker, but my DH loves his iced tea in summer. Seems our winters somewhat parallel yours, so perhaps this would be a good cultivar for us too. I'll have to do some research.

ReplyDelete@J there is a full-scale tea plantation in the Bellingham area, IIRC. @L I see no reason why not!
